Set Up Your Blog For Fast Profit - The Little Secret to Ranking Well

Author: Ian Hollander

Who else wants to know how the right way to set up their blog for maximum profit? If you are anything like the vast majority of people who are reading this right now, the simple truth is that you probably have your hand up high, right? It's true....there are certain "rules" or best practices when it comes to structuring your blog the proper way, and it's RARELY the sort of stuff that "gurus" and other self appointed experts will tell you is important. (often, because they simply don't know any better themselves) Now, listen up: I'm going to tell you how to set up your blog properly straight out of the gate, but rather than "trust" that I'm right, simply try this set up the next time you start a blog and watch how much better it performs for you, ESPECIALLY if you are doing a lot of off site marketing and promotion. Step 1 - ALWAYS set your blog up on sub domain. (like blog.yoursite.com) or (news.yousite.com) Step 2 - Protect the root level of your domain. Why? Because it gives you an amazing amount of flexibility. You can use the root for a veritable cacophony of different purposes, and you can always change it to "do" whatever you want, whenever you want. I like to create a navigational site map, AND put a big fat opt in box on the root. The site map should point to your blog category pages if at all possible, with keyword rich links. Why does this work well? Well, if you put your blog on the root, you are sort of "stuck" like chuck. If the blog becomes LESS important to your overall marketing strategy, for example, your URL will always be associated with a "stale" sort of feel. Remember, most people will remember your URL, or will visit on the root level, just because that's human nature. And if you've got no activity on your blog for a week or two (or more) people will assume your information is antiquated and getting old. Alternatively, a squeeze page on the root is static. Or.....if you ABANDON the project altogether for a month or two due to time constraints, you can always use the root to redirect to an affiliate program of your choice, ESPECIALLY if you are doing, or have done a lot of article marketing. (as article directories typically WON'T let you re-direct from your resource box links, if they are NOT on the root level) But....I'm going to give you one more good reason: Often, the search engines will "rank" your blog and root level differently. So it's not uncommon to have the blog show up really highly for a given keyword phrase...and then the OTHER pages get a second helping of "search engine love" completely separately, giving you the potential to have up to 4 separate domain results on the first page if you're smart, savvy and paying attention! (because trust me - most of your competition WON'T be!)
